About the Auction

The On Yer Bikes On-Line Auction 2002 followed on from the success of Ride 2001. It was announced by Harry and Carol Tansey on 11th March 2002.

"Whilst trying to organise prizes for Ride 2001, we were luckily enough to receive some valuable lots from leading sporting clubs, celebrities and companies. We wrote to many more clubs and celebrities in order to get more lots, ready for the auction to begin."

The auction officially started on Saturday June 8th 2002, to coincide with the start of the JTSMA Awareness Week and ran until Saturday June 22nd 2002. In order to prevent last minute bidding and to maximise the amount raised, any bid for an item kept the bidding open (for that item only) for an extra day.

The Results

Auction 2002 raised £1895!

Interesting facts:

The top bid was £175 for the signed Arsenal Football.
We had over 4500 hits on the web site over the auction period.
There were 182 bids in total for 54 items.
The most bids for one item was for the Signed Celtic Shirt, which had 23 bids and eventually sold for £150.
The longest running item was a signed Micheal Caine photo, (we kept bidding open for another day if an item was bid for), which meant that despite the auction officially finishing on Saturday, we've only just closed bidding on the morning of 27th June: it went for £39 after 17 bids.
The item that is going to be the furthest travelled is a signed Jamie Redknapp photo, which we are sending off to Singapore!

After the auction, we spoke to the Jennifer Trust for Spinal Muscular Atrophy who were delighted with the outcome! Overall it was a fantastic event, well supported by people local and worldwide! It has raised the profile of SMA and raised valuable funds that will be used to support families affected by SMA and to fund research that we hope will one day find a cure for the condition.
