We will be starting at 11am at Militair House, Christchurch Road, Ringwood (near the brewery)
Militair Hourse, Christchurch Road, Ringwood
11.30 Exit Militair House onto Christchurch Road, TURN RIGHT. Carry on for 250 yards to TEXACO GARAGE. TURN LEFT immediately after the garage. Continue along this road. There is a long slow climb which peaks after 2.3 Miles at Crow Hill Top (we'll have a van to help you get up the hill if you start walking!)
Just after Crow Hill Top
Start watching out for horses!
View towards Burley
3.3 miles into the route, you will come across a fork in the road. BEAR RIGHT towards BURLEY. There is a sign post 'Burley Street' about 20 yards down this road. Continue along this Road. Past the Burley Inn into the centre of Burley, BEAR LEFT after the cycle shop on your left.
Burley Village Center
The pub's just around the corner!
Immediately round this corner is our first pub stop, the QUEENS HEAD (opens 12.00), with a large carpark and a beer garden to the rear of the pub. (4.7 Miles into Route) STOP !
Queen's Head Pub
Get some liquid refreshments!
12.30 Leave pub, immediate RIGHT and immediate LEFT back on to the main road and up a very short but steep hill, signposted 'LYMINGTON & BROCKENHURST'. At the top of the hill you will see a cricket pitch on your left. This is no more than 150 yards from the Queenshead pub. Continue along this road WITHOUT TURNING OFF for approxiameately 6 miles.
You will come to sign signifying the start of Brockenhurst town about 11 miles into the journey. Continue past the church on your left, ignore the first turn signposted TOWN CENTRE, and take the SECOND turn on your RIGHT which is signposted to the TOWN CENTRE VIA FORD!. The ford is immediately after the start of the road. You cannot fail to see it! There is a bridge for those of you who want to stay dry!
Only 200 yards to the next pub!
12.50 to 1.20 (depending on your speed) Cycle straight down this road for about 200 yards (just out of the town centre). You will see a bike shop straight in front of you with blue signs, next to a railway crossing. On your LEFT is our (optional) food stop, THE FORESTERS ARMS. The food here is both very tasty and home cooked, and mostly under a fiver. Definitely recommended. They may also be putting a BBQ on for us for ?5.00 per head, subject to demand.
Time for lunch!
After eating and drinking, leave the Forresters and turn RIGHT back the way you came, through (or over) the ford to the T-junction. Here, TURN RIGHT and continue along this nice flat twisting road for a few miles
After cycling through some of the forest, you get to a T-junction, TURN LEFT. BE VERY CAREFUL. You are now on the busiest fastest bit of road on our circuit (The A35). Luckily we only continue along this road for 200 yards before taking a RIGHT. This is the first right you come too and is signposted with 40 mph signs about 50 yards into the road. It then climbs gently.
Back towards Burley
This part of the route has some lovely forest and open areas with breathtaking scenery.
Continue along this road for about 3 miles without turning off until you come to the sign signifying you are entering BURLEY. Shortly after this sign you will see a sign pointing to RINGWOOD VIA FORD on your RIGHT. Take this right turning. Be careful - this is the easiest sign to miss on the route. Continue along this road until it ends at a T-junction opposite a quaint house called the "Little Ale House". Unfortunately this is NOT a pub!! TURN RIGHT at this t-junction. After about 40 yards turn LEFT (signposted for CROW & MOORTON), down a slope. Approxiamately 20 yards on your RIGHT should be our WATER STOP, where you can take a drink and rest.
Meet Some New Friends Along the Way
After taking a drink and a rest continue down this road without turning off for about 2.5 miles (you may have noticed that you cycled this bit at the start - and you get to go down that hill!) until you see a sign for THE OWL SANCTUARY to the RIGHT. Turn right and continue on past the OWL SANCTUARY for about half a mile until you reach the ELM TREE PUB right in front of you. THIS IS THE END OF THE SPONSORED CYCLE.
The End In Sight
Please REGISTER THAT YOU HAVE FINISHED ! You can now either stay and have a drink and a chat or return to Militair House. To get back to Militair House (about 1 more mile). Exit the pub, go straight across the way you came for a couple of hundred yards and turn RIGHT into CROW ARCH LANE. Continue till the end of the road and TURN LEFT at the T Junction. Continue untill the roundabout and TURN LEFT AGAIN. Militair House is now 200 yards on your RIGHT, past RINGWOOD BREWERY. CONGRATULATIONS -You've now finished !!!
